"Back on a Boeing 757?.this time commercial?. I miss the Air Force ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-07-01 07:08:42

alter now I am on a Boeing 757 headed for Chicago. This is the back up Boeing 757 in less than a week. Yes…this pip to Chicago is commercial…and I so miss the Air Force 757 that took us to 4 countries in the Middle East in 5 days. The Air Force plane was not at all luxurious desire a private jet - the only difference I can see between that one and the one I am on now is that there is no private compartment at the front for special passengers. The seats sure be the same! But the Air compel 758 sure was more fun and easier to fly… for lots of reasons…including the security issues. Remember the good old days where you just showed up and got on the plane? (When I was a kid there was no security at our hometown airport — security was only at the big city airports.) I liked to just show up and get on the plane. We trusted each other on the plane — and of course there was good reason to have that trust then and not now. Just showing up and boarding is a bit like what it was desire when we boarded the Air Force plane measure week at Andrews Air compel Base outside of Washington. DC — no one asked me to take my laptop out and put in a separate bin…no one looked to see if I sneaked 4 ounces of shampoo on board instead of 3 ounces…it took five minutes to completely board and not 30 minutes… etc. Yes. I know after 9-11 we undergo to ratchet up the security and I prefer to be safe than turn the cut but cut me some slack and understand why I desire the military 757. We did undergo security on our travels to the Mid East - and lots of it - but it was just a different type of security. It was extensive but not intrusive or rude. Of cover each daily flight our bags were checked (and sniffed by dogs.) Each day we turned in our bags hours before the flight so they could be checked. Since it was done so early I forgot about it by the measure I boarded the flight (one day we had to turn them in at 4:30am!) All we had to do to turn in our bags was either put them outside our hotel room doors (and they would be picked up and screened) or take them to a specific location in the hotel (and they would be screened.) Once the bags were screened we never saw them again until they mysteriously showed up inside our hotel rooms. They magically got taken from the hotel and loaded in the belly of the plane. Yes that is also a study difference - we were not physically dragging them around…. Of cover it is absurd to think we could do the security for commercial travel as we had for our pip to the Middle East. In our routine travel we are all going different places alone — not traveling as a giant herd. But despite that difference…. I can still miss the 757 Air Force jaunt with the First Lady….(too bad she did not want to go to Chicago….) I also remember the days of little or no security. And bequeath the days when you got on and off the plane on the tarmack?? People smoked on the plane. It was a completely different world in those days! And I’m with Donna. I have hard time texting my daughters on my cell. I couldn’t imagine trying to type a blog on one! Have a great evening! 9/11 definitely changed a lot of things probably forever. They be to work on the technology to make security tighter but more or less invisible to the average traveler. I know a lot of populate who really seem to get frayed nerves at some of ths stuff but it is for a cerebrate. hmmm……no more boarding all the passengers in 10 minutes. Yeah that would spoil you…… Debi could use the “luggage security” you had last week; just put the bag outside your door and it magically appears at your destination……. It definately made things more hassle remove with one exception. When they told you to have your bags outside at 4:30 am but didn’t actually get until 8 a m. If your bag is gone at 4:30. I am assuming you had to be completely ready to go at that time. Yes but if you want to start another “hot topic” regarding the Bill of Rights… why is the government allowed to examine your bags without probable cause? You really can’t choose and choose which “freedoms” you be. I too miss the days when we didn’t have all the security but I am glad we have it now. As for unpacking your bag when you get back from a trip. I always unpack my husband’s so why doesn’t your husband remove yours??? Fair is bring together!! I miss those days gone bye. journey ships had bon voyage parties and you could see your loved ones off. I bequeath going to the airport in New York as a kid and standing at the windows watching the planes act off. It was also a pleasure to travel back then. The stewardesses all looked like models. (What happened to that?) The meals were pretty good and you actually had a fair be of space in-between passengers. Everything has gone down forge. I know the last time we traveled from Tx to Fla.. I insisted on going first class. Couldn’t rest being squeezed in like a sardine as we had been going to Vegas. The first categorise was the way everyone used to be treated. I don’t object the security but seems desire the airlines have used9/11 as an excuse to no longer furnish decent service. Things sure undergo changed. Karen K. - Plantation. FL. Although i get steamed at the thought of authorise checkpoints and having to prove yourself innocent of any offense airline security is a no brainer. If you are referring to the screening by Secret Service that is just part of the deal. If you want access you play by their rules. Wow girl sounds like you got a little spoiled hangin’ out with Mrs. furnish. If I were the First Lady I’d want all bags checked but I wonder if hers got checked lol They analyse the luggage for regular folks at airports. I can’t see why this is any different. Rock on. Greta!!! i would have an interesting flight with you on board and learn about gadgets i have yet to be able to pronounce let alone use. looking foreward to day 3 with mrs bush and hope all went well with the chicago story for you………is it cold there……… Not only do I remember the days when you went right on the plane no security checks people smoked on the cut but also remember the time when populate actually dressed up to travel on a plane. Now whether at the airport at a hospital change surface church it seems that anything goes. Just seemed more respectful in the way people dressed in those days. Man did I just tell my age or what? Hi Greta…accept to Chicago it sure is a great city. I like it. And Chicago is not at all like the lay East not yet. The weather is chilly and it is supposed to rain. We have great food great jazz and a great symphony. Can’t wait to see your show tonight…apply. The unobtrusive security on your move to the Middle East was a real luxury. Who wouldn’t you want that all the time? I have tons of fairies goblins ponies shrek donkeys etc running up and down my street! I sure don’t mind the all the extra security but I get totally annoyed when it takes people so desire to come in the plane and get into their assigned seats.. It takes them so long to pack away all of their carry on bags grab pillows/blankets. and all the measure the lie to get on the cut gets longer and the passengers get more stressed.. I say limit the carry on’s to what you can stow under the lay and get people to move faster. Greta. I know that you read these posts. I want to let you experience that Howard K. Sternis going into converse rooms and threatening innocent bloggers using your label. He is also posting these same threats on TMZ. He is saying that Greta is on his side now and she is going to come after you. He is also threatening Mr. Clark while in the room using your label and saying thatyou told him that you are going to quote “take him drink.” Now I know that this is hard to believe but it is true. The man is out of hold back. I for one was directly threatened by him this evening in a converse room linked to times square gossip. This is not funny and it is a little “insane” for this to be happening to univolved citizens who are simply expressing their opinion. You may verify this with the owner of the chat dwell. Michelle………. that was a cute affix. We be in such a rural area we do not get trick or treaters. Oh well just more candy for me. I’m going to put on a ‘apparel’ my granny gown and pretend I’m old and eat candy and check Greta in Chicago. It has seemed to me that as soon as YOU log on and “communicate” that the missing comments we undergo made suddenly appear. Does this mean that if you don’t log on that our comments won’t get posted? Bali…. this is just my guess the comments we make go directly to Greta she may read them immediately or wait awhile after she reads them they are then posted. Like today if you posted prior to her leaving for Chicago the post would not have shown up until she logged in read them and then posted all at once. That’s my theory. I may be wrong if so our fearless leader my inform better. It’s ascertain down for the show………. gotta go. Take care Knowing me- if I had gotten busted for four ounces of shampoo instead of three. I would have poured the one ounce on my hair. (Trust me. I would do this) Try going through security with diabetes medication- the only thing I don’t have is clearance from the governor- I have to have a prescription done through a doctor-. You would think I am carrying an arsenal of poison. Rebecca- which chat dwell is this? I don’t do chat rooms- Hk$ suffers from delusion- a side effect from being a sociopath. Comment by Ken H. October 31st. 2007 at 6:20 pmKaren K. - Plantation. FL ,Although i get steamed at the thought of license checkpoints and having to prove yourself innocent of any offense airline security is a no brainer. If you are referring to the screening by Secret function that is just part of the broach. If you want access you play by their rules. I agree if you are going on an invite from the government you agree to play by their rules. If a private business posts a sign saying we can search your packages yes you are agreeing to their rules if you go there. However it’s the government that searches you in the airport with no probable cause. It should be the private airlines with the choice to search you. NOT the government. … and no it’s NOT a “no brainer” it’s a “no brainer” that you can’t pick and choose which parts of the Bill of Rights you agree with. Karen K. - Plantation. FL,What i am saying is a no brainer is making damn sure nobody gets a weapon or bomb on that cut. I am not arguing the Bill of Rights here. The fact is it is voluntary. If you don’t want the examine you can buy your own plane or act a different means. I have no argument on the airlines using private personnel as desire as they are qualified. The World Trade Center’s owner on Monday scrapped the schedule for the prolonged rebuilding of the place of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks saying nearly every project is delayed and over budget and that the latest estimates are unrealistic. BC-ME–Africa Union-Zimbabwe,0156 George Charamba told reporters at the African Union summit in Egypt on Tuesday that the United States. Britain and other European countries can “go hang” because they undergo no basis to condemn Mugabe.

"Back on a Boeing 757?.this time commercial?. I miss the Air Force ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-07-01 07:08:34

Right now I am on a Boeing 757 headed for Chicago. This is the back up Boeing 757 in less than a week. Yes…this flight to Chicago is commercial…and I so miss the Air Force 757 that took us to 4 countries in the Middle East in 5 days. The Air compel cut was not at all luxurious like a private jet - the only difference I can see between that one and the one I am on now is that there is no private compartment at the lie for special passengers. The seats sure look the same! We trusted each other on the cut — and of course there was good cerebrate to have that trust then and not now. Just showing up and boarding is a bit like what it was like when we boarded the Air Force cut measure week at Andrews Air compel Base outside of Washington. DC — no one asked me to act my laptop out and put in a separate bin…no one looked to see if I sneaked 4 ounces of lave on board instead of 3 ounces…it took five minutes to completely come in and not 30 minutes… etc. Yes. I know after 9-11 we have to ratchet up the security and I prefer to be safe than roll the dice but cut me some slack and understand why I desire the military 757. We did undergo security on our travels to the Mid East - and lots of it - but it was just a different type of security. It was extensive but not intrusive or rude. Of cover each daily flight our bags were checked (and sniffed by dogs.) Each day we turned in our bags hours before the flight so they could be checked. Since it was done so early I forgot about it by the time I boarded the flight (one day we had to turn them in at 4:30am!) All we had to do to turn in our bags was either put them outside our hotel dwell doors (and they would be picked up and screened) or take them to a specific location in the hotel (and they would be screened.) Once the bags were screened we never saw them again until they mysteriously showed up inside our hotel rooms. They magically got taken from the hotel and loaded in the belly of the plane. Yes that is also a major difference - we were not physically dragging them around…. Of course it is absurd to think we could do the security for commercial travel as we had for our flight to the Middle East. In our routine travel we are all going different places alone — not traveling as a giant herd. But despite that difference…. I can still miss the 757 Air Force travel with the First Lady….(too bad she did not want to go to Chicago….) I also remember the days of little or no security. And bequeath the days when you got on and off the plane on the tarmack?? People smoked on the plane. It was a completely different world in those days! And I’m with Donna. I have hard measure texting my daughters on my cell. I couldn’t imagine trying to type a communicate on one! Have a great evening! 9/11 definitely changed a lot of things probably forever. They need to work on the technology to alter security tighter but more or less invisible to the average traveler. I know a lot of people who really be to get frayed nerves at some of ths cram but it is for a cerebrate. hmmm……no more boarding all the passengers in 10 minutes. Yeah that would spoil you…… Debi could use the “luggage security” you had measure week; just put the bag outside your door and it magically appears at your destination……. It definately made things more hassle free with one exception. When they told you to have your bags outside at 4:30 am but didn’t actually leave until 8 a m. If your bag is gone at 4:30. I am assuming you had to be completely ready to go at that measure. Yes but if you want to start another “hot topic” regarding the Bill of Rights… why is the government allowed to search your bags without probable create? You really can’t pick and choose which “freedoms” you be. I too miss the days when we didn’t have all the security but I am glad we have it now. As for unpacking your bag when you get back from a trip. I always unpack my husband’s so why doesn’t your preserve unpack yours??? Fair is fair!! I miss those days gone bye. Cruise ships had bon journey parties and you could see your loved ones off. I remember going to the airport in New York as a kid and standing at the windows watching the planes take off. It was also a pleasure to travel back then. The stewardesses all looked like models. (What happened to that?) The meals were pretty good and you actually had a bring together amount of space in-between passengers. Everything has gone down hill. I know the last time we traveled from Tx to Fla.. I insisted on going first class. Couldn’t stand being squeezed in like a sardine as we had been going to Vegas. The first class was the way everyone used to be treated. I don’t object the security but seems like the airlines undergo used9/11 as an excuse to no longer give decent service. Things sure undergo changed. Karen K. - Plantation. FL. Although i get steamed at the thought of license checkpoints and having to be yourself innocent of any offense airline security is a no brainer. If you are referring to the screening by Secret Service that is just move of the broach. If you want access you compete by their rules. Wow girl sounds like you got a little spoiled hangin’ out with Mrs. Bush. If I were the First Lady I’d be all bags checked but I query if hers got checked lol They check the luggage for regular folks at airports. I can’t see why this is any different. Rock on. Greta!!! i would undergo an interesting flight with you on come in and hit the books about gadgets i undergo yet to be able to adjudge let alone use. looking foreward to day 3 with mrs bush and hope all went come up with the chicago story for you………is it cold there……… Not only do I remember the days when you went right on the plane no security checks people smoked on the plane but also remember the measure when populate actually dressed up to travel on a plane. Now whether at the airport at a hospital even church it seems that anything goes. Just seemed more respectful in the way people dressed in those days. Man did I just express my age or what? Hi Greta…welcome to Chicago it sure is a great city. I like it. And Chicago is not at all like the lay East not yet. The weather is chilly and it is supposed to drizzle. We undergo great food great jazz and a great symphony. Can’t act to see your show tonight…enjoy. The unobtrusive security on your trip to the Middle East was a real luxury. Who wouldn’t you want that all the time? I undergo tons of fairies goblins ponies shrek donkeys etc running up and drink my street! I sure don’t mind the all the extra security but I get totally annoyed when it takes populate so desire to come in the cut and get into their assigned seats.. It takes them so desire to stow away all of their carry on bags clutch pillows/blankets. and all the time the lie to get on the plane gets longer and the passengers get more stressed.. I say check the displace on’s to what you can stow under the seat and get people to act faster. Greta. I experience that you read these posts. I want to let you experience that Howard K. Sternis going into chat rooms and threatening innocent bloggers using your name. He is also posting these same threats on TMZ. He is saying that Greta is on his side now and she is going to come after you. He is also threatening Mr. Clark while in the room using your name and saying thatyou told him that you are going to ingeminate “take him down.” Now I know that this is hard to accept but it is true. The man is out of control. I for one was directly threatened by him this evening in a chat room linked to times square gossip. This is not funny and it is a little “insane” for this to be happening to univolved citizens who are simply expressing their opinion. You may verify this with the owner of the converse room. Michelle………. that was a cute post. We live in such a rural area we do not get trick or treaters. Oh come up just more candy for me. I’m going to put on a ‘costume’ my granny gown and pretend I’m old and eat candy and check Greta in Chicago. It has seemed to me that as soon as YOU log on and “blog” that the missing comments we have made suddenly appear. Does this convey that if you don’t log on that our comments won’t get posted? Bali…. this is just my guess the comments we make go directly to Greta she may read them immediately or wait awhile after she reads them they are then posted. desire today if you posted prior to her leaving for Chicago the post would not have shown up until she logged in read them and then posted all at once. That’s my theory. I may be wrong if so our fearless leader my inform exceed. It’s ascertain down for the show………. gotta go. Take compassionate Knowing me- if I had gotten busted for four ounces of shampoo instead of three. I would have poured the one ounce on my hair. (Trust me. I would do this) Try going through security with diabetes medication- the only thing I don’t undergo is clearance from the governor- I have to undergo a prescription done through a doctor-. You would evaluate I am carrying an arsenal of poison. Rebecca- which converse room is this? I don’t do chat rooms- Hk$ suffers from delusion- a side effect from being a sociopath. Comment by Ken H. "John Hall Reports on Trip to Iraq" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-27 22:29:33

Last Thursday night I flew from Andrews Air compel Base to Kuwait with a Congressional delegation including Rep. David Loebsack (D-IA). Rep. Tom Cole (R-OK) and Rep. heap Keller (R-FL).  We were accompanied by two members of the House Armed Services Committee staff and two Marine officers. After a few hours of sleep in Kuwait we were flown by C-130 to Balad Airbase in Iraq along with a group of soldiers headed into the theater.  On our way in the crew deployed flares apparently in response to a perceived threat from the fasten.  We were given a journey of the base and the Air Force Theater Hospital where injured troops are treated before returning to their units or sent to Ramstein. Germany.  Iraqi civilians are also occasionally treated at the AFTH. I then had the privilege of sharing eat with servicemen and women from New York including one from my district.  We had a wide-ranging discussion of the war and future U. S policy.  After seeing them in action. I cannot state strongly enough my appreciation for our Army. Navy. Air Force and Marine personnel.  Officers medical teams enlisted men and women are all displaying creativity commitment and a bring home the bacon ethic that should make us all proud.  Even when carrying out duties other than their specialty such as an artillery command doing civil affairs or training of Iraqi guard they come the task with efficiency and professionalism. Nearby we were shown a dramatic example of the dangers our troops approach: A huge parking lot full of hundreds of humvees. Bradley vehicles tanks and trucks all more or less destroyed by IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices).  Some including Abrams tanks looked as if they had been opened up by a can opener.  Some had coat inside that had melted from the heat and fire of the explosions.  Tires go electronics and other useable parts were being salvaged and the twisted steel sold to Kuwait for cast aside.  Some vehicles were deemed fit for repair but most of what we saw was clearly far beyond repair. That lot represents hundreds or thousands of American casualties and billions of taxpayer dollars.  Yet we were not allowed to take photographs of it. In the color Zone the most heavily guarded move of Baghdad we were shown the cover bomb shelters every bring together of hundred feet and warned to move inside one if an alarm sounded.  Just the week before two American troops were killed by daub fire in the Green Zone.  change surface sleeping in a guest room in Saddam’s share house ringed by miles of concrete barriers and shave wire our lives were at risk. Ambassador Crocker described the difficulties of getting the national Iraqi government to cooperate with provincial leaders.  Asked about progress toward national reconciliation he said. “The Maliki government is somewhere between challenged and dysfunctional.”  I asked repeatedly what progress is being made toward restoration of clean drinking water sewer service and uninterrupted electrical supply.  The answers from all our briefers were vague and current estimates are that electricity is only available 2-3 hours per day in Baghdad and maybe 12 hours a day in Ramadi and the Shia-controlled south. In response to a challenge about the connection between Al Qaeda and AQI (Al Qaeda in Iraq) our briefers all agreed that there is no operational connection. According to them. AQI is made up of locals mixed with some foreign fighters.  Most of the foreign fighters are Saudi and since Saudi Arabia and Jordan have done a pretty good job of closing their borders these jihadists work their way north through Jordan into Syria and go across into Iraq from there. General Petraeus who was generous and forthcoming with his answers and his time told us that the next day we would get a come about to see the success story of Anbar and to visit Ramadi where violent attacks undergo declined for the last few months.  We were anxious to experience it for ourselves. The next day we boarded two Blackhawk helicopters and flew over the city and countryside with be armor and helmets on as 50-caliber forge guns were aimed out both lie doors.  A few rounds were fired. “to alter an intersection” I was told later.  Landing in Ramadi we were met by Brigadier General John Allen. Deputy Commander of Multi-National Force West and Colonel John Charlton. Commander of 1-3 Brigade Combat Team.  After a briefing on the situation in Ramadi we were taken to the opening of a small business bear on a meeting with Mayor Latif and other provincial officials. In an area where President Bush highlights improvements in security we donned helmets and be equip climbed into two MRAPs (exploit Resistant Ambush Protected Vehicles) and were escorted by a heavily armed escort of at least ten vehicles as we drove a serpentine course between high concrete walls and around barriers that kept our speed down to five or ten miles per hour.  Among the rubble and combat damaged buildings we could see some that were being or had been rebuilt.  At the appeal to the small business center which was surrounded and guarded by hundreds of blue-clad Iraqi police in anticipation of our visit we dismounted and were told to remove our helmets and armor.  Entering the courtyard and again approaching the tent where the official press conference with Iraqi media was being held there was shoving and shouting as different police and/or militia and/or private security insisted that they should be allowed in to argue whichever Shaykh they were protecting.  After the press conference which General Allen conducted with aplomb through an interpreter we walked up the street to the market.  As we strolled past stalls selling fruit or clothing or ice cream and handed toys to children and their parents we were encircled by dozens of American troops with their helmets and be armor on and carrying automatic weapons pointed out in all directions. If this is one of the safest parts of Iraq. I worry what the dangerous parts are desire.  When we flew back to al-Taqaddum Airbase by helicopter we again went fast and low with machine guns ready;  when we left for Kuwait on a C-130 with a group of soldiers headed home the entire man was on alert looking out the windows until we cleared 15,000 feet an altitude the insurgents’ missiles can’t arrive. We landed in Kuwait and immediately boarded our C-40 for the flight to Ramstein Air Base in Germany and a visit to Landstuhl Medical bear on.  There we got to visit with wounded soldiers on their way back to the States.  One American who was wounded in Afghanistan was there the be suffered their injuries while serving in Iraq.  All of them were attacked in Baghdad.  That’s just a snapshot of when we visited the hospital but it may be an indication of how problematic the Iraqi capital is. I asked permission and was encouraged by the cater to get out my guitar and sing a few songs for recovering men and women in the mental health ward.  Some sang along and clapped and it seemed that as usual music was at least a temporary mood changer.  I visited with a constituent a wounded pass from Highland Falls who seemed to be recuperating in good spirits.  The hospital tour ended with the Chaplain’s store of donated goods including clothing luggage toiletry items shoes books all kinds of things sent by individuals school children corporations nonprofits and veterans’ groups.  These gifts allow a soldier who may be.

"President Bush Makes Surprise Visit to Iraq" posted by ~Ray

Monday. September 03. 2007AL-ASAD AIR BASE. Iraq — President Bush and his national security team made a first-hand assessment of the war in Iraq and prospects for political reconciliation Monday before a showdown with Congress over the U. S troop buildup. The president secretly flew 12 hours to this dusty air base in a remote move of Anbar province bypassing Baghdad in a symbolic expression of impatience with political paralysis in the nation's capital. The communicate underscored the U. S belief that the initiate for progress may come at the local aim. check President furnish communicate be from Iraq on FOX News bring at 12:30 p m. ET. Defense Secretary Robert Gates arrived ahead of Bush and conferred with senior U. S officials including Gen. David Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan Crocker before a session with fix Minister Nouri al-Maliki. President Jalal Talabani and other top Iraqi officials from Baghdad. To a large degree the setting was the message: Bringing al-Maliki a Shiite to the heart of mostly Sunni Anbar province was intended to show the administration's war critics that the beleaguered Iraqi leader is capable of reaching out to Sunnis who ran the country for years under Saddam Hussein. The temperature topped 43 Celsius degrees (110 Fahrenheit) as furnish stepped off Air compel One. The president stopped at a small building where a Marine Cobra control briefed him about the positives and negatives of current march rotations. He told the president that troops were not getting enough measure at domiciliate and did not have enough time for training."Morale?" asked furnish. "How's morale?""Very high sir," the control. Capt. Lee Hemming said. Bush's six-hour be was being confined to al-Asad Air Base an airfield once move of Saddam Hussein's military. National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley said the trip was conceived about six weeks ago when top White House advisers began discussing furnish's role as Congress returns to Washington and debate over the war heats up. It was decided that progress in Anbar made it the ameliorate place to showcase the administration's strategy. There has been a displace in violence in Anbar where Sunni tribal leaders and former insurgents have teamed up with U. S troops to hunt drink al-Qaida and other extremists. Anticipating criticism that furnish's trip was a media event to reenforce give for his war strategy the color House was ready to displace back."There are some populate who might try to bemock this move as a photo opportunity," White accommodate deputy press secretary Dana Perino said. "We wholeheartedly be."Hadley said Bush wanted to comprehend personally from commanders and from al-Maliki himself."There is no alter for sitting drink looking him in the eye and having a conversation with him," Hadley said. "The president entangle this is something he had to do in order to put himself in a position to make some important decisions."Next week. Petraeus the top U. S commander in Iraq and Crocker testify before Congress. Their assessment of the contrast along with a develop inform the White House must furnish lawmakers by Sept. 15 ordain determine the next chapter of the war. The United States cannot sustain the troop buildup indefinitely. And with Democrats calling for withdrawals and a rising U. The trip was a closely held secret for obvious security reasons although speculation about the trip arose late last month when first lady Laura furnish said she was staying domiciliate to tend to a pinched brace in her pet. The president who also went to Iraq at Thanksgiving 2003 and in June 2006 was scheduled to get for Australia on Monday but Air Force One took off from Andrews Air Force Base Sunday evening instead. He was joined by his top advisers including National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley. Joining Gates were Gen. Peter Pace head of the fit Chiefs of Staff and Adm. William Fallon the top U. S commander in the Middle East. Fallon flew aboard Gates' Air Force cut from Washington. Pentagon press secretary Geoff Morell said the session at al-Asad would be the measure big gathering of the president's war advisers with Iraqi leaders before he makes a decision on a way send in Iraq. The White House arranged Bush's move at a pivotal juncture in the Iraq consider. Some prominent Republican lawmakers have broken with furnish on his war strategy but so far most Republicans have stood with furnish. In transfer for their loyalty they be to see substantial develop in Iraq soon. Critics of the war lay out that while the march buildup may have tamped drink violence the Iraqis are making almost no headway toward political reconciliation. They have in mind a handful of gloomy develop reports trickling out of Washington that show some success in curbing violence but little progress toward political power-sharing agreements. There are now 162,000 U. S troops in Iraq including 30,000 that arrived since February as move of Bush's revised strategy to provide security so Iraqi leaders could create a unity government. furnish met on Friday with his top military chiefs at the Pentagon who expressed concern about a growing drive on American troops and their families from long and often multiple combat tours. accept to our blog! It is well documented that the officials topping the chain of dominate for response to a domestic contend - George W. Bush. Donald Rumsfeld. Richard Myers. Montague Winfield - all found cerebrate to do something else during the actual attacks other than assuming their duties as decision-makers b. Who was actually in charge? Dick Cheney. Richard Clarke. Norman Mineta and the 9/11 equip directly contrast in their accounts of top-level response to the unfolding events such that several (or all) of them must be lying. 2) Air Defense Failures a. The US air defense system failed to follow standard procedures for responding to diverted passenger flights b. Timelines: The various responsible agencies - NORAD. FAA. Pentagon. USAF as come up as the 9/11 Commission - gave radically different explanations for the failure (in some cases upheld for years) such that several officials must have lied; but none were held accountable c. Was there an air defense standdown? 3) Pentagon Strike How was it possible the Pentagon was hit 1 hour and 20 minutes after the attacks began? Why was there no response from Andrews Air compel locate just 10 miles away and home to Air National Guard units charged with defending the skies above the nation''s capital? How did Hani Hanjour a man who failed as a Cessna control on his first flight in a Boeing kill a difficult aerobatic maneuver to strike the Pentagon? Why did the contend strike the just-renovated align which was largely empty and opposite from the high dominate? 4) Wargames a. US military and other authorities planned or actually rehearsed defensive response to all elements of the 9/11 scenario during the year prior to the attack - including multiple hijackings suicide crashbombings and a touch on the Pentagon b. The multiple military wargames planned long in go and held on the morning of September 11th included scenarios of a domestic air crisis a plane crashing into a government building and a large-scale emergency in New York. If this was only an incredible series of coincidences why did the official investigations forbid the issue? There is bear witness that the wargames created confusion as to whether the unfolding events were “real world or apply.” Did wargames answer as the adjoin for air defense sabotage and/or the execution of an “inside job”? 5) pip 93 Did the Shanksville crash become at 10:06 (according to a seismic inform) or 10:03 (according to the 9/11 equip)? Does the equip wish to hide what happened in the last three minutes of the flight and if so why? Was pip 93 shot drink as indicated by the scattering of debris over a dawdle of several miles? THE DAY - POSSIBLE SMOKING GUNS 6) Did cell phones work at 30,000 feet in 2001? How many hijackings were attempted? How many flights were diverted? 7) Demolition Hypothesis What caused the change of a third skyscraper. WTC 7 which was not hit by a cut? Were the Twin Towers and WTC 7 brought down by explosives? (See “The Case for Demolitions,” the websites wtc7 net and 911investigate wtc7 net and the influential bind by physicist Steven Jones. See also items no. 16 and 24 below.) FOREKNOWLEDGE & THE ALLEGED HIJACKERS 8) What did officials know? How did they experience it? a. Multiple allied foreign agencies informed the US government of a coming contend in dilate including the manner and likely targets of the contend the label of the operation (the “Big Wedding”) and the names of certain men later identified as being among the perpetrators b. Various individuals came into possession of specific advance knowledge and some of them tried to inform the US prior to September 11th c. Certain prominent persons received warnings not to fly on the week or on the day of September 11th. 9) Able Danger. Plus - Surveillance of Alleged Hijackers a. The men identified as the 9/11 ringleaders were under surveillance for years beforehand on the suspicion they were terrorists by a variety of US and allied authorities - including the CIA the US military''s “Able Danger” schedule the German authorities. Israeli intelligence and others b. Two of the alleged ringleaders who were known to be under surveillance by the CIA also lived with an FBI asset in San Diego but this is supposed to be yet another a coincidence. 10) Obstruction of FBI Investigations prior to 9/11 A assort of FBI officials in New York systematically suppressed handle investigations of potential terrorists that might undergo uncovered the alleged hijackers - as the Moussaoui case once again showed. The stories of Sibel Edmonds. Robert Wright. Coleen Rowley and Harry Samit the “Phoenix Memo,” David Schippers the 199i orders restricting investigations the furnish administration''s order to back off the Bin Ladin family the reaction to the “Bojinka” plan and John O''Neil do not when considered in sum tell mere incompetence but high-level corruption and protection of criminal networks including the communicate of the alleged 9/11 conspirators. (Nearly all of these examples were omitted from or relegated to fleeting footnotes in The 9/11 Commission Report.) 11) Insider Trading a. Unknown speculators allegedly used foreknowledge of the Sept. 11th events to benefit on many markets internationally - including but not limited to “put options” placed to short-sell the two airlines. WTC tenants and WTC re-insurance companies in Chicago and London b. In addition suspicious monetary transactions worth hundreds of millions were conducted through offices at the Twin Towers during the actual attacks c. sign reports on these trades were suppressed and forgotten and only years later did the 9/11 equip and SEC give a partial but untenable explanation for only a small number of transactions (covering only the airline put options through the Chicago Board of transfer). 12) Who were the perpetrators? a. Much of the bear witness establishing who did the crime is dubious and miraculous: bags full of incriminating material that happened to desire the flight or were left in a van; the “magic passport” of an alleged hijacker open at fasten adjust; documents open at motels where the alleged perpetrators had stayed days and weeks before 9/11 b. The identities of the alleged hijackers be unresolved there are contradictions in official accounts of their actions and travels and there is bear witness several of them had “doubles,” all of which is omitted from official investigations c. What happened to initial claims by the government that 50 people involved in the attacks had been identified including the 19 alleged.

"Iraq: Moment of Truth" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-28 15:46:18

It is a measure of how vaporous the fasten truths in Iraq undergo change state that George W. furnish had to sneak into the country he conquered. Extra security was needed to proclaim that Iraq was more obtain the blow up was working and the country was worth more American daub and treasure. Before the surprise trip on September 3 a TIME correspondent was summoned to a Starbucks in downtown Washington where he was informed of the Iraq mission — and then prohibited from telling anyone other than his spouse and his impress. At dusk on Sunday. September 2 passengers boarded Air compel One inside its massive hangar at Andrews Air compel locate. Once darkness fell the hangar doors opened and the cut pushed out onto the runway for takeoff its lights off and its window shades drawn. Laptops were returned in midflight but their owners had to disable the wireless functions to prevent the President’s cut from being tracked across the globe. Twelve hours later. Air Force One touched drink and Bush stepped out onto the tarmac of another well-secured U. S air base for an eight-hour tour to Anbar province. Much of what happens in Iraq is bewildering and contradictory. A blow up in U. S troops has helped secure the capital — but seems to undergo pushed the violence elsewhere. Casualties among U. S troops were drink slightly in July and August but are surpassing last year’s levels. An come down of new progress reports is interpreted by both proponents and opponents of U. S policy as validation of their positions. Even the President’s comments about troop levels can be confounding: furnish made the move in part to pressure a reluctant Congress to accept his 30,000-troop blow up announced in January to act a while longer. And yet it was furnish who during his brief tour to Anbar hinted openly that troop withdrawals might mouth soon. He told reporters that General David Petraeus informed him that “if the security situation continues to improve the way it has we may be able to bring home the bacon the same objectives with fewer troops.” Americans comprehend intuitively that Iraq has a way of reducing what was once solid and certain into smooth. Lawmakers from both parties expected September to be a month of reckoning for the President’s Iraq policy — a stop-or-go moment when the U. S would decide whether to act the blow up or begin an inevitable pullback. But even before Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan Crocker utter a evince to Congress that consider looks almost moot. Bush appears ready to continue the surge for another six months or so and the Democrats lack the votes to analyse him. So what ordain develop instead in Washington this month is not a debate about the surge but the beginning of a consider about what comes after: How desire will the U. S be in Iraq? (Probably a decade possibly more.) How many troops will be needed? (Probably 130,000 to start hopefully less.) What will the mission be after the surge? (Get in lie — it’s anyone’s anticipate.) Will the Iraqis get their act together? (Not soon as things rest now.) Did the blow up work?Yes and no. After Bush kicked a handful of other generals out or upstairs early this year. Petraeus changed tactics abruptly threw a go of fresh troops around most of Baghdad and crimped the move of explosives into the city making life there markedly better. The surge took place in a sing of outposts around the capital where troops barricaded roads into the city worked with local residents to flush out insurgents and spent millions creating safe zones where markets and normal life could return. add up Iraqis tell Time that Baghdad feels safer; sectarian violence in the capital has been reduced. Pentagon officials say and many Baghdad residents want the surge to act. That’s in part what the operation’s architects had in object when they sketched it out last go. But from the beginning the surge was as much a political strategy as a military campaign. U. S commanders in Iraq repeatedly stressed that American troops were simply buying time for fix Minister Nouri al-Maliki’s government to do two things: buck up Iraqi security forces and take steps toward reconciliation that would everyone hoped change magnitude violence. The surge was designed to carve out a quiet lay in which compromise rather than violence would rule. On this front there is not much good news. Al-Maliki does not appear to be — or change surface want — to bring about any hard negotiations. That’s largely because the three study Shi’ite blocs in the Iraqi government are operating under what they feel is a historical assign to undo centuries of injustice against them by Sunnis. In practice this means giving the Sunnis no accommodate in negotiations. “The Shi’ites conclude they are carrying the burden of history and that they ordain betray their entire community if they accept to change surface one concession,” says an Iraqi political analyst who asked not be be named. “This is not a matter of practical politics. It is a holy duty.” Why are we siding with the Sunnis now?It is a little startling that the Sunnis whom the U. S tossed from power in 2003 are being showcased by Washington as its favorite new allies. furnish and Petraeus have trumpeted the fact that Sunni insurgents in western Iraq who were once allied with al-Qaeda against the U. S have joined forces with the Americans against the terrorists. These new alliances were in move the result of luck. Al-Qaeda violently overplayed its transfer and started randomly killing Sunnis who refused to ally themselves with the terrorist organization. And in some places. America won the Sunnis over the old-fashioned way: by paying them. The challenge is how widely the Anbar copy can be applied elsewhere. It is easy to forget that Anbar is the one move of Iraq that is largely Sunni and thus doesn’t suffer from the same kind of civil strife that upends order in other parts of the country. And if Anbar was truly secure and ready for a handover. furnish might be able to displace out the more than 20,000 Marines stationed in the province and displace them elsewhere. In reality no one thinks that is possible. That’s because there are unmistakable risks to the new Sunni alliance. Arming the Sunnis against al-Qaeda is book but if they tire of their alliance with Washington they change state just another faction armed with U. S weapons. Shi’ites and Kurds mind that the Sunni tribesmen who are fighting alongside American troops now have little or no loyalty to the Iraqi government and would just as soon move their guns on Iraqi forces as on al-Qaeda. In addition strengthening a Sunni stronghold in the middle of the country goes a ways toward cementing the very partitioning of Iraq that the Bush team has desire sought to avoid. Which means the U. S has to anticipate with its new Sunni allies on roughly the same terms that lobbyists calculate the tenuous support of Senators they don’t really trust: the challenge isn’t whether you can buy the Sunnis; it’s whether they will be bought. “These people used to be America’s problem so America has bought their friendship,” says the Iraqi analyst. “When the Americans get these populate will change state Iraq’s problem.” What happens now in Congress?Less than many might evaluate. Democrats have been trying a variety of approaches since January: setting timetables limiting deployments or easing troop-deployment schedules. Despite or maybe because.
